Elements of Art & Principals of Design

Today, all art classes watched a riveting video about the Elements and Principals of Art and Design.   :)

Although most students have had some previous experience with these concepts, it is important to revisit them regularly. The Elements and Principals are key foundational blocks in art. The ability to identify their use in the work of others, and utilize them in your own, is critical to mastering composition and growing as an artist.

Beginning of Semester Lessons...

Each semester, all art classes start with the same basic teachings. Review of course outlines, sketchbook guidelines, classroom expectations, safety, and basic artistic concepts/technical skills are covered. Once these general lessons are completed, specialized grade-level units and assignments will begin.

5 Feb 2013

WELCOME!!!

Welcome to all semester two Visual Arts students! Course outlines for the G and S level courses were handed out today. All students are reminded they must obtain a good quality sketchbook (at least 9x12 size, 60lb paper minimum) by Monday's class.

Please avoid temptation to purchase lesser quality sketchbooks (ie: Dollar Store) as they do not contain enough pages for the course, they fall apart and they cannot withstand some of the media used for assignments.

THANK YOU!

To all of the semester one art students: thank you for being part of the Visual Arts program. I truly hope you had a positive experience in the studio and found an outlet for your creativity.  I hope each of you surprised yourself at some point and discovered something you were good at. I also hope you all developed at least a little bit of a love for the visual arts. I know I enjoyed having you in class and was awed by some of the talent and the quality artwork that emerged.
Check out the HEARTWORKS blog for images of some of the semester highlights. Take care and good luck in Semester two!   :)
